The honest answer is that it depends on the ceremony. A small indoor ceremony with one narrator is very different from an outdoor ceremony with a choir, musicians, a screen and hundreds of parents.
What drives the price
- Audience and venue: more people and a longer distance to the last row need more speakers. Outdoor ceremonies usually need more equipment than indoor ones.
- Number of microphones: every microphone is a channel to set and run.
- Screen and lighting: separate components. At an evening ceremony, stage light is not decoration.
- Setup and hours: a rehearsal the day before or an early setup changes the crew's hours.
- An engineer for the whole ceremony: the real difference between equipment hire and sound.
Questions to ask before comparing quotes
- Is an engineer on site for the whole ceremony?
- Do they attend the dress rehearsal?
- How many microphones, and which types?
- Is there backup equipment?
- Are setup and load-out included?
A cheap quote without an engineer or backup is a different service, not the same service for less.
