Conference and seminar sound

What a conference or seminar needs to sound right: microphones for speakers and audience questions, speaker spread, sound for slides and video, and a screen.

At a conference, speech matters more than music. If the back rows cannot hear, people leave halfway. Most problems are solved in planning.

Microphones by agenda

  • Lectern: a fixed microphone for the main speaker.
  • Host: a wireless microphone.
  • Panel: one microphone per panelist, or at least one per two.
  • Audience questions: a wireless microphone that moves between rows.

Spread, not volume

In a long room, two speakers by the stage do not reach the back. Add speakers along the room at lower level.

Slides and video

Video sound coming out of the laptop speaker is a classic fault. Connect the presentation laptop to the sound system and test every video before the audience enters.
